Celebration Assembly 20th March 2026

On Friday 20^th March, we were treated to Year 3 sharing their learning from this term. We found out lots about Egypt and were able to hear some songs they had performed in their Year 3 Primary Schools Concert earlier in the term. It was a special time of celebrating Year 3.

This Friday, we celebrated our student councillors, who had represented St Andrew’s so well on their day of meeting Oxford City Council, and our school ‘good neighbours/ citizens’. As well as the usual certificates, we had something out of the ordinary – no birthdays to celebrate!

On Friday, we had our usual celebration assembly – we also had one on Thursday for World Book Day, celebrating books and reading! Evelyn, who is sadly moving, has always upheld our St Andrew’s values. We felt that she should get the Headteacher’s Award before leaving, in recognition of what a good neighbour she is.

The arrival of some sunshine has been something to celebrate alongside our pupils. It is wonderful to hear about when St Andrew’s pupils have represented the school well on trips, being great ambassadors for the school (Year 3 and 6 fell into this category this week). The achievement certificates continue to reflect the variety of skills and abilities being celebrated in the classrooms, from being young mathematicians, to poets, scientists and historians. Well done to Year 1 for winning the Doodle star, through keeping on with your Doodle Maths through the half term holiday.

We finished this half term with our celebration assembly, celebrating those who have been good citizens both in the school and outside of the school (when on a trip or event). We took some time to think about one thing we were proud of for this term and one thing we would like to improve on for next term.

Today Year 4 had the opportunity to share some of their learning with their adults in our celebration assembly. Parents and carers were able to experience how we celebrate good citizens, achievement certificates, Year 6 award and Headteacher’s award, alongside some sports and a debating award. What a wonderful way to finish the week!

This week, instead of our usual celebration assembly, we had a skipping assembly, after all the classes had taken part in a skipping workshop during the day. It was wonderful to see the stamina and tricky moves during the final assembly. Hopefully, the children can continue to develop their skills during playtimes at school, when the skipping ropes will be back out on the playground.

Our Friday assemblies have been an opportunity for much celebration: from class achievement certificates to our Headteacher's Award and Year 6 Award. Mrs Suzanne Walker was the most recent member of staff to be presented with the 'Adult of the week' award from our school council. We also celebrate sporting achievements. Recently we were excited to share the news that Esther (in Year 4) has been offered the opportunity to join the Oxford United Elite Development Centre due to her 'great focus, respect to coaches and teammates... great ability to dribble the ball and keen eye for goal with her finishing.'

Christmas Fair 2025

Friday 5^th December was our Christmas Fair. All the Year 6s did an incredible job of planning, preparing and then running their stalls; each class set up a different part of the fair, including a Santa's grotto, tombola, winter woolies, lantern making, books and a cafe. For a solid two hours, Mrs Graham accompanied our young musicians as they provided entertainment for the cafe with Christmas carol and song renditions.

In Friday 21^st celebration collective worship, Year 5 shared with their adults about what they had been learning, alongside our usual certificates and awards. A huge amount had been learnt about Mars, which was presented in a very clear and informed way.

On Friday 14^th November, we supported Children in Need, with dressing in spots and bringing a donation to the charity. Our celebration assembly was a lovely time to recognise how we can do things for others, that 'everyone is our neighbour'. Most celebration assemblies provide the opportunity for our musicians to play as children walk in and out of assembly. This Friday, Hamish (Yr 5) played his double bass, accompanied by his dad on the piano.

On Friday 7^th November, we celebrated our Festival of Faith. This year, we were looking at special places and spaces. We heard about special places and spaces in all these faiths and world views: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Humanism, Sikhism. It was wonderful to learn about different perspectives and recognise that most, if not all, of these world views are represented amongst our school community. What a wonderful way to truly celebrate that 'everyone is different, everyone is special and everyone is our neighbour'.

Remembrance Day 11th November

On Tuesday 11th November, we held our Remembrance Day collective worship. Mother Emma shared a story and led the prayers after our hymn. Helena and Mia (Yr 6 school councillors) laid a poppy wreath. We then held our moment of silence, with Emma (Yr 6) playing the cornet for the last post. Governors, who joined our time of remembrance, were impressed how everyone was able to share in this special time of respectful remembrance.

On Friday 10^th October, Year 6 parents/ carers joined our celebration assembly as Year 6 shared their learning about Vikings and their English text 'Wolf Brother'. We were sung in and out of assembly by the Year 6 rendition of 'Happy'.

It is wonderful to celebrate the children on Friday's assembly. What is particularly meaningful is when the children select people they want to celebrate. This week, Mrs Chris James (who has been working in the school for over 40 years!) was chosen by the children as 'adult of the week' and Alex (Yr 1) was chosen for the Year 6 Award.

Each week it is a delight to celebrate the recipient of the Headteacher's Award. These are children who uphold the school values, live out what it means to be a Good Samaritan and contribute to the wider life of the school. We are so proud of the children who receive this certificate.

We have been thinking more about our school motto this week 'Everyone is different. Everyone is special. Everyone is our neighbour'. It has been wonderful to celebrate the children who have been good neighbours with their names in the citizenship book for helping children and adults, being a kind friend and being a polite and supportive member of the school.

We finished our year with celebrating Year 6s- through a leavers' service at St Andrew's church and a leavers' assembly in school. This was after the Year 6s had their residential week in Woodlands. We wish our Year 6s all the very best as they journey on to the next stage of their education at Secondary School.

This week's celebration assembly was in the morning due to our Summer Fair in the afternoon. It was wonderful to see all the children sitting in their new places for next year, as the children were having their 'move up transition morning'! Well done to each and every person who was on the stage being celebrated this week.

On Friday 27^th June, adults of Year 1 children joined us for our celebration assembly. Alongside the usual Year 6 Award, Grown-up of the Week Award, Achievement Certificates and Headteacher's Award, the Year 1 class shared their learning about Pirates and geography related to this topic. They spoke confidently, remembering their lines, and sang beautifully - what a treat!

On Friday's assembly, we celebrated the Fun Run! Reception class joined us to get their 'metals' (medals), which every child who had run more than 3 laps received. There were an incredible amount of children collecting certificates and medals. We celebrated our Year 6s who had run the most laps, with the three girls having tied with their number of laps.

On Friday 16^th May, the Year 2 grown ups joined us for celebration assembly. We had our usual celebrations of 'good Samaritans', achievement certificates, 'Grown-up of the week' and 'Headteacher's Award' alongside quite a few music and sporting achievements. The special addition this week, was our Year 2 class sharing - through words, song and art - all their learning around minibeasts.

In our celebration assemblies, we like to celebrate when children have achieved something outside of school - this may be a sports competition, musical event or something else. We have celebrated football, triathlons, ice skating, swimming, chess and grades in musical instruments, to name but a few.

On Friday 25th April, we were very privileged to have Dr James Balkwill present our Big Science winners with certificates. Dr Balkwill began by explaining his connections with the school (his own children had attended years ago) and his scientific background. He explained about how important it is to be curious, investigate and ask questions - books with all the Science we read about have only come into being from scientists, like our St Andrew's pupils, being investigated and often not getting the results they expected. Searching for truth is crucial and Science is one of the ways to do that; to gain knowledge and understanding is essential. He had seen a lot of the Big Science in St Andrew's School this year, either in process or at the end result, and with Ms Sian Davies (our Science lead) had decided on the 3rd, 2nd and 1st places for this year. After the 3rd, 2nd and 1st places were announced for each Key Stage 2 class, the overall winners - Prabal and Guiseppe (Year 6) - were presented with the Magnus Smyth trophy.

On Friday 28th March, Year 3 presented about this term's learning to their grown ups. It was fascinating for all the school to hear all about their Egyptian knowledge. The Year 3 class also won the Doodle Star this week, had one of their class receive a music certificate, another the pen license and another the Headteacher's Award - what a lot of celebrating for Year 3!

This Friday, instead of a celebration assembly, we had a skipping demonstration. All the classes, from Reception to Year 6, had had a skipping workshop during the day. At the end of the school day, children were able to demonstrate their learning - with some particularly impressive joint skipping with long ropes.

Each week, alongside two children in each class receiving an achievement certificate for their work in class, the Year 6 class nominate someone in the school who they feel has shown the school values. This 'Year 6 Award' is the pupils' voice equivalent of the Headteacher's Award, and is a wonderful way of the children celebrating the 'good Samaritans' in St Andrew's.

Friday's Celebration Assembly included a time for Year 4 to share about their learning. We heard all about the Victorians - fun facts, and interesting writing and viewed talented portraits in art. Year 4 pupils won both the Year 6 Award and Headteacher's Award this week.
