Residentials

At St Andrew’s, our residential trips in Year 4 (Hill End or Ufton Court) and Year 6 (Woodlands) are a vital part of our curriculum, offering children the chance to develop independence, resilience, and teamwork in new and exciting settings. Whether immersing themselves in history at Ufton Court or Hill End or embracing outdoor adventure at Woodlands, our pupils gain confidence, problem-solving skills, and a deeper connection to the world around them. Rooted in our Christian Vision and values of hope, justice, friendship, forgiveness, and trust, these experiences encourage children to support one another, take on challenges with courage, and reflect on their place in the wider community. Away from the busyness of everyday life, residentials also provide a special opportunity for spiritual reflection—whether through quiet moments in nature, campfire discussions, or shared experiences that inspire gratitude and wonder. Residentials provide not only unforgettable memories but also valuable life lessons that help shape our pupils into compassionate, confident individuals.

Hill End

Our Year 4 residential at Hill End Outdoor Education Centre offers students an immersive exploration of Roman history. Located just four miles from Oxford, Hill End provides a unique setting where pupils can engage in hands-on activities that bring the Roman era to life. Through re-enactments, crafting, and interactive learning sessions, children gain a deeper understanding of Roman culture and history. This experience not only enriches their historical knowledge but also fosters teamwork, resilience, and a connection to the natural environment. The centre's 67 acres of meadows and woodlands offer an ideal backdrop for students to develop independence and confidence while exploring the past.

Ufton Court

Our Year 4 residential to Ufton Court is an unforgettable experience that brings the Roman era to life. We choose Ufton Court because of its immersive, hands-on approach to history, allowing children to step into the world of Roman Britain. Through engaging activities such as military drills, crafting, and daily life re-enactments, pupils develop a deeper understanding of this fascinating period. The residential also builds resilience, teamwork, and independence, as children take on new challenges in a beautiful woodland setting. This trip not only strengthens their historical knowledge but also nurtures their confidence and curiosity beyond the classroom.

Woodlands

Our Year 6 residential at Woodlands Outdoor Education Centre is an exciting opportunity for children to challenge themselves through a range of outdoor adventure activities. We choose Woodlands because it provides a safe yet stimulating environment where pupils can develop key physical skills, resilience, and teamwork, in line with the PE curriculum. Through activities such as climbing, canoeing, orienteering, and high ropes, children push their limits, build confidence, and strengthen friendships. Set in a stunning natural landscape, this trip also fosters independence and a deep appreciation for the outdoors, preparing pupils for the transition to secondary school.
