Curriculum
At St Andrew’s we believe that ‘Everyone is different. Everyone is special’ within the context of our Christian-based values.
We plan and deliver the national curriculum through an enriching topic-based approach. This means that some topics might be very science-led, others history and so on.. By chunking learning together in this way, we think children retain information better, become excited and motivated and are fully immersed in their learning. Importantly we seek to take advantage of our central location, our diverse community and our small size to ensure that children receive rich and varied learning experiences. We think going on lots of school trips, residentials and learning from first-hand experiences is vital in motivating and encouraging children to learn. We think learning to swim and staying fit are important life skills. We think having extra-curricular opportunities and community events help our children become good citizens. We know that working with our parents effectively supports our children to do well at school.
If you want to find out more about our topic-based curriculum approach, this document (click on Curriculum link to the right) gives more in-depth detail about the nature of planning, teaching and learning across all subjects. For each area of the curriculum, the document outlines the ‘intent’ (what we want the children to learn), the ‘implementation’ (how we will deliver the teaching and learning) and the ‘impact’ (how well the children progress in their learning).
As a result of this bespoke, fluid and adaptable curriculum, delivered hand-in-hand with our school mission and values, children leave St Andrew’s with secure knowledge and skills ready for Secondary school and confident young people.
